What changed for children after COVID

After COVID · What changed
Two years at home moved the whole day.
School became a screen, play became scrolling, and meals drifted to whenever the class ended. Most families never fully reset that day when schools reopened.
- Meals moved late
- Breakfast slid past 10 AM or vanished; dinner moved after 9:30 PM. Long gaps followed by large late meals are exactly what drives weight gain and reflux in this age band.
- Snacking replaced meals
- Packaged snacks, instant noodles and sweet drinks became the default between online classes, and many children still graze instead of eating a plate.
- Movement fell sharply
- Walking to school, PE and evening play dropped together. Energy intake stayed the same or rose while energy spent fell.
- Sleep shifted
- Late screens pushed sleep past midnight. Short sleep raises hunger hormones and cravings for sugar and fried food the next day.
